The sole purpose of this unit is to prevent cultural discrimination and promote acceptance and tolerance through the development of strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills used in the context of cultural exploration. English curricula should be embedded with a variety of cultural information to promote the importance of diversity in our culture. For this unit plan, I’ve even included the historical components of cultures and the discrimination they have faced in the past and in the present. Incorporating a variety of cultures into my curriculum will broaden students’ understanding of these cultures, spreading acceptance of differentiation into their school and community. At the same time, students will have the opportunity to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening in meaningful and engaging ways.
